“You got to keep writing in your journal. It is not even optional.”
Big piercing eyes stare directly at me. I know he is right. But in my defense, sometimes, after a long day. Packed with impressions. You just want to go to sleep. You don’t feel like writing.
‘I promise’, I reply. ‘I’ll keep writing…’
I realize I have the privilege of being overwhelmed by amazing experiences every single day. The last thing I want to happen, is for it all to become normal. Surfing fierce Balinese waves. Seeing orangutans swing from one tree to the other in the suffocating heat of a Sumatran rainforest. And staring speechless at a futuristic Singaporean light show by night.
It all happened to me. And a way to notice and remember the huge diversity and contrast in everything that takes place, is to faithfully write it all down.
